Stationary: LaSalle/Van Buren could use some paint
May 22, 2012: My weekly CTA column came out today. Every week, I spotlight a different CTA station, picked at random, in my “Stationary” feature. I write about the amenities I like at a station and those that could use change. Last week, I was at the LaSalle/Van Buren stop and noticed the Loop station, built in the 1800s, could use a paint job. This week I’ll be at the 35th/Archer stop on the Orange Line.

And here’s the result of the Reddit “Shit Chicagoans Say” thread from Monday. <3 if you like it better than the other one we wrote about this week.
CTA riders: “F*** pants.”
The Art Institute of Chicago announced this week it has outfitted 50 train cars on the Red Line with “thrones” in honor of its exhibition “Kings, Queens, and Courtiers: Art in Early Renaissance France.”
CTA riders who post a photo of themselves sitting on one of these CTA “thrones” for a chance to win a “royal treatment” prize.
Winner will receive a private tour of the Art Institute for four, a copy of the “Kings, Queens, and Courtiers: Art in Early Renaissance France” hardcover catalogue, and an overnight stay for two at the Palmer House Hilton. To be eligible to win, riders must post the photo to the Institute’s Facebook page by May 30. Official rules here.
To us, every seat on the “L” is a throne, but this is pretty cool.
Ominously named "Lakeview Area Master Plan" unveils new ideas for CTA Brown Line
For the vacant lot next to the Paulina Brown Line, the chamber proposes an urban garden run by high school students with a composting center and a farmers market on site.
The space would feature an herb garden, fruit and nut trees and a rainwater collection center.
When people ask what Chicago needs, “more nut trees” is usually our first response. But seriously, this is cool.
Where does Chicago's public transit rank?
[U.S. News and World Report] recognized the system’s high ridership but said it experienced more safety incidents per million trips than the cities in the top 10.
